Founders, pretzels and Oktoberfest — an unexpected cocktail of things that fuelled a weekend of networking, learning and connecting!

You may be thinking, what do pretzels and Oktoberfest have to do with founders and start-ups? Well, to be honest, not much — but both are quintessentially part of Dach culture. So really, it’s: what’s a better way to celebrate, connect, meet and learn all about German-speaking founders and start-up enthusiasts than over a good beer and pretzels? (btw, If you didn’t know, our founder and CEO, Natalie, is Austrian).

Now that we’ve addressed the important stuff, let us explain what the Bits and Pretzels festival is, and why we are so grateful and excited that Natalie was invited to attend.

As highlighted, this is a founder’s festival — and Europe’s leading one at that! As mentioned in a tweet by @bitsandpretzels this year alone had 2500 start-ups, 1000 investors and 500 speakers who attended. It’s an event where all attendees can share the mutual belief and value that entrepreneurship is and can have a positive impact on the world, with a strong emphasis on Germany and Europe.

It was a three-day event, where we were able to network and listen to many incredible speakers, (and yes, beer and pretzels were provided throughout). You may even recognise names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kelly Rutherford whilst being there, as they were amongst many speakers at the event.

Beyond that, the festival also hosted How-to-Sessions, Masterclasses and even Speed dating — but not in the way you may be thinking. Speed dating was an opportunity for founders, investors or fellow female entrepreneurs to connect with one another. There were also start-up exhibitions, start-up pitch awards and a whole space dedicated to Munich’s Oktoberfest.

So in short, 2022’s Bits & Pretzels event was a fantastic opportunity to understand the entrepreneurial atmosphere in the Dach-region, network and connect with many like-minded individuals and most importantly, a great way to spend Oktoberfest!
