Viva Technology Paris 2022
SCALED went to its first fair! We were kindly invited to exhibit at Viva Technology Paris 2022. Three days full of spreading the word about SCALED, meeting other start-ups and learning new things – we had a blast! Here is a little summary of our three days at the fair:
DAY 1
>>>
DAY 1 >>>
After a quick croissant and espresso breakfast, we started our first day at Viva Tech. We got lucky and had a stand at a very central location, right in front of the Discovery Stage.
We spent our day talking about SCALED to a wide range of people. From corporate representatives, investors, to other founders and students, everyone was fascinated by our on-site 3D printer sponsored by Prusa and our material innovation!
A volleyballer, a rugby player, and a wakeboarder dropped by to ask for customized wrist guards. This was very exciting as these are sports that our SCALED wrist guard has not been used for before. We asked them to take pictures of their hands which gave us the data we needed to make a customized SCALED wrist guard. We can’t wait for our new customers in France and Austria to become part of #teamscaled!
In the afternoon, Natalie pitched on the Discovery stage and presented SCALED to the audience. Before we got here, we were a little nervous that everyone would only speak French and that we’d have difficulties explaining our technology. But it all turned out fine and Natalie’s pitch went really well!
After a long first day, we returned to our hotel for an early night, a little overwhelmed and very excited for the next few days.
DAY 2
>>>
DAY 2 >>>
Prepared with baguettes from the nearby boulangerie, we started our second day. In the morning we were approached by an American news channel to present SCALED on tv! Mirjam explained how our material innovation is made and showed how our wrist guard is different to the current industry standard. Good morning, America!
Later that day we ventured out to explore the other stands at the exhibition. This year, there was a strong presence of NFT and metaverse-related innovations. Another theme was sustainability and technologies to help combat climate change which was very exciting! 3D printing is a great way to reduce waste during the material manufacturing process – this is why our SCALED material solution has a minimal impact on the environment. We felt like we fitted right in!
In the evening, we were invited to a VIP rooftop afterparty event. With views over Paris, chocolate crêpe and prosecco in our hands, we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and interesting conversations with people from all over Europe working in innovation.
DAY 3

DAY 3 >>>
Friday, our last day at Viva Tech, a big heatwave struck Paris. With nearly 40°C outside, we felt very lucky to be standing inside the climatized convention centre. Today, we had many representatives from different industries visit our stand. It was very interesting to see what other use cases there could be for SCALED – some we had never thought of ourselves! We were lucky to have many of these conversations and new ideas during Viva Tech!
A few days later we started following up with the many interesting contacts we made at Viva Tech. We were also featured in a local news article Lemonde Informatique! Reflecting on our time at the exhibition, we realised that we learned a lot, about selling our product to different people as well as new use cases and industries that SCALED could be used in. We are very grateful to the Viva Tech team for inviting us and for the great opportunity to exhibit SCALED for the first time at such a great convention! Thank you for having us! On to the next exhibition.
